Sandblasting

Mechanical pickling for surface cleaning

Sandblasting is typically carried out to remove oxides, mill scale, foundry sand, slag, and other residues that interfere with electrochemical processes. The treatment leaves the surface with a uniform roughness and profile, which is ideal either for preparing the part for subsequent treatments (such as phosphating or painting) or for simple cleaning purposes.

This type of process, also referred to as mechanical pickling, is influenced by several factors that determine its effectiveness:

  • Projection speed
  • Treatment duration
  • Size and mass of the abrasive media
  • Angle of impact
  • Type of abrasive (metal shot, ceramic media, corundum)
  • Characteristics of the machine (hanger shot blasters, tumble belt machines)

Pontoglio Vincenza is equipped with various types of shot-blasting and sandblasting machines, allowing the use of different abrasives to achieve optimal cleaning results based on the specific application.
